The Law School Admission Council is a not for profit organization that include more than two hundred law schools throughout the United States of America and Canada. The headquarters of the Law School Admission Council is in Newton Pennsylvania. Newton is in Bucks County, about fifteen miles north of Philadelphia. The Law School Admission Council was originally created by Educational Testing Service in 1947.

Educational Testing Service is the organization that is responsible for administering the Law School Admission Test, or LSAT. Representatives from the University of Virginia, Harvard, Yale University, Columbia University, and the University banded together in order to help facilitate, coordinate, and enhance the law school application and law school admission process.

The primary purpose of the Law School Admission Council is to oversee the administration of the Law School Admission Test. The LSAT is an essential aspect of any law school application. The Law School Admission Council operates the Law School Data Assembly Service, which assembles the information that can be found on an applicant's law school application, as well as their LSAT performance and their undergraduate experience. The Law School Data Assembly Service combines all this information into a standardized report which can be used by members of the Law School Admission Council to make the law school application process operate more efficiently.
