The University of Washington School of Law is a publicly funded legal education institution and a part of the larger academic framework of the University of Washington, located on that institution’s main, Seattle-located campus. The University of Washington School of Law is currently ranked by U.S. News & World Report as the 34th best law school in the county and the best Pacific Northwestern law school. The University of Washington Law School has been available for the preparation of students for a life and career in the law since 1899, when it was founded.
As of 2008, the University of Washington School of Law had 671 students enrolled, being taught on a full-time basis by 66 professors of law. Surveys conducted in July 2009 found that University of Washington School of Law students passed the bar to become fully accredited legal professionals at a rate of 87.5%. Washington residents are charged, on a yearly basis, tuition of $19,585, while University of Washington School of Law students are charged $28,809 on an annual basis.
The University of Washington Law School enjoys fully accreditation from the American Bar Association (ABA). In 2012, the current University of Washington School of Law class was composed at 55% of men and at 45% of women. The University of Washington School of Law has, in the Marian Gould Gallagher Law Library, one of the West Coast’s largest legal libraries. University of Washington School of Law students may take such various courses as Juris Doctor (J.D.), Master of Laws (LL.M.) and Ph.D. degree programs.
