Facts About Concord Law School

Concord Law School is an Internet-based legal educational institution and is not accredited as a law school by any nationally recognized authorities. Concord Law School was at one time formally known as Concord University School of Law, and since having become part of the Kaplan test preparation company in 2007, has been known as the Concord Law School of Kaplan University. Concord Law School is based out of Los Angeles, California and has been available since 1998.

Students enrolled in Concord Law School can choose to take either Juris Doctor or Executive Juris Doctor degree classes. Concord Law School graduates with the J.R. degree can thus take the California Bar Examination and, if they pass, practice as lawyers in California. The executive J.D. degree does not allow people to take the California Bar Examination, but instead provides grounding in law for people not planning on actually practicing as a lawyer. Taking the Juris Doctor degree Concord Law School course imposes the requirement on students to take 92 units over a period of four years. The Executive Juris Doctor degree, on the other hand, involves taking 72 units over a period of three years.

A Concord Law School graduate was allowed to use the J.R. degree accreditation in order to take the Massachusetts bar examination after suing, in a case heard by the State Supreme Court in his favor. Concord Law School was administered by Dean Barry Currier from 2004 until his announced departure from the position in 2010.
